Used neoprene diving suits recycling project
Because we want an always blue sea, the Association of Costa Brava Sub Immersion Centers begins a campaign to collect and recycle used neoprene. This material, made from petroleum derivatives, usually ends up in selective textile collection, without being recycled.
Our association has a strong commitment to sustainability and the protection of the marine environment, which is why we have been carrying out actions for several years under the generic name ecodiving/ecoguiaje.
In this framework, and knowing that the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) states that textiles are the most polluting industry worldwide after oil, this year we have focused on neoprene, a still basic material. in the manufacture of diving suits, but which also has a significant environmental footprint and is difficult to recycle.
For this reason, we started a neoprene collection and recycling campaign, which can be deposited at any of the associated centers, in the special containers installed during the month of August.
All neoprene will be collected and recycled by a specialized company.
This project is co-financed by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (FEMPA), with the support of the Generalitat of Catalonia and the European Union within the framework of the GALP Costa Brava.
